Itinerary

Day 1 DEPART USA / ARRIVE LIMA, PERU.
Board your flight to the "Land of the Incas." Upon arrival, you are met and transferred to your hotel.

Day 2 LIMA.
Your tour visits the Huaca Pucllana, an archaeological site currently being worked on, and Plaza Mayor, the historical center of Lima.
On to the 16th century San Francisco Monastery. Next, the beautiful residential districts of San Isidro and Miraflores for spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean. The rest of the day is free. (B)

Day 3 LIMA / AMAZON RESERVE. This morning take a flight to Puerto Maldonado, a bustling tropical frontier town. Then board a motor boat for the two-hour ride on the Tambopata River. Your destination is the Posadas Amazona, a native owned (Ese’eja tribe), eco-friendly jungle lodge in the heart of the Tambopata Candamo Reserve. (B,L,D)

Day 4 AMAZON RESERVE.
There are all kinds of activities planned during your stay. You will take a nature walk to Tres Chimadas Lake and canoe the waterways looking for giant river otters and wading birds. Other activities are available, including an optional night walk to seek out nocturnal creatures. (B,L,D)

Day 5 AMAZON RESERVE / CUZCO.
Head back to Puerto Maldonado and fly to Cuzco. The remainder of the day is free to explore this historic town and its narrow alleys lined with colorful shops. (B)

Day 6 CUZCO / SACRED VALLEY.
Descend into the magical Sacred Valley. Visit Ollantaytambo, where you will take a walking tour through the quaint village and have time to mix with the locals. Just outside of town, see the magnificent Inca fortress. Next is Pisac, where you have the chance to bargain for arts and crafts. (B,L)

Day 7 SACRED VALLEY / MACHU PICCHU.
Transfer to Ollanta Station for the unforgettable rail journey to Aguas Calientes. Upon arrival, ascend by bus to Machu Picchu, the "Lost City of the Incas." After a guided tour of the marvelous citadel, explore the temples, houses and altars of this fascinating archaeological site. (B,L,D)

Day 8 MACHU PICCHU / CUZCO.
A free morning to further explore the magnificent ruins. This afternoon make your way to the train station for the return to Cuzco, arriving in the early evening. (B)

Day 9 CUZCO.
A free morning to relax. This afternoon’s city tour includes Plaza del Regocijo, Plaza de Armas, the Cathedral, Santo Domingo Monastery, the legendary Koricancha and the Old Town with its very narrow streets. Next, drive outside of the city to visit the archaeological Inca remains of Tambomachay, Kenko, Puca Pucara and the impressive fortress of Sacsayhuaman. (B)

Day 10 CUZCO / PUNO.
Early departure from Cuzco by motorcoach, traveling to Puno on the shores of Lake Titicaca. This area is the cradle of the Aymara civilization and the birthplace of the Inca Empire. (B,L)

Day 11 PUNO / SUASI.
Sail to Taquile Island on Lake Titicaca. Next, meet the Quechua speaking natives who are renowned for their hand-weaving techniques. Then on to Suasi Island, an ecological preserve. Overnight at the noble Suasi Lodge, overlooking the lake. All aspects of the lodge have been given the utmost environmental concern including the thatched roof made of local grasses and solar heated hot water. (B,L,D)

Day 12 SUASI.
A day at leisure. You will find yourself immersed in the special energy of this truly unique island. Walking, hiking, fishing are just some of the activities available. Be on the lookout for unusual animals, including the Andean guinea pig and the threatened vicuna. (B,L)

Day 13 SUASI / UROS / PUNO.
Visit one of the most interesting floating islands of the Uros. For hundreds of years the livelihood of this "water tribe" was based on the benefits of the totora reed. The reed is used to build their homes, boats, and the islands they live on. This afternoon, transfer back to Puno, where the rest of the day is free. (B)

Day 14 PUNO / LIMA.
Fly back to Lima with the afternoon free for last minute exploring and shopping. (B)

Day 15 DEPART LIMA.
Transfer to the airport for your return flight home, arriving the same day. (B)

Days 1 to 13, Sun.-Fri.

Day 14, Sat. PUNO / LIMA / QUITO, ECUADOR. Fly to Quito, the capital of Ecuador. You are met at the airport and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is free. (B)

Day 15, Sun. QUITO.
Enjoy a city tour of Quito this morning. Your afternoon is at leisure. (B)

Day 16, Mon. QUITO / BALTRA ISLAND / SANTA CRUZ ISLAND.
This morning’s flight over the Pacific lands at Baltra, one of the remote Galapagos Islands, then transfer to your ship, the M/V Santa Cruz. This afternoon, a panga ride through mangrove swamps reveals boobies, frigates and pelicans. Often seen are marine iguanas, turtles, rays and sharks. Later, on an easy hike on Dragon Hill you will see land iguanas. (B,L,D)

Day 17, Tue. BARTHOLOME ISLAND / SANTIAGO ISLAND.
Bartholome Island is best known for its volcanic features. After a short hike for the dramatic view, you will stop by a cove to see Galapagos penguins, the only penguins north of the equator. Vegetation includes red and white mangroves, salt bushes, morning glory and cactus. This afternoon visit Santiago Island with it’s black beach and dramatic rock formations. Keep an eye open for fur sea lions and oystercatchers. (B,L,D)

Day 18, Wed. TOWER ISLAND / NORTH SEYMOUR ISLAND.
This morning a wet landing at a small white coral beach will show off hundreds of birds including great frigates, red footed and Nazca boobies, lava gulls, herons, finches, and mockingbirds. There’s time for snorkeling where hammerhead sharks can be spotted. The flat island of North Seymour is home to sea lions, marine iguanas, blue-footed boobies and frigate birds. Vegetation found in the dry interior areas of the island include prickly pear cacti, palo santos trees and salt bushes. (B,L,D)

Day 19, Thu. SANTA FE ISLAND / SANTA CRUZ ISLAND.
Exploration on Santa Fe Island will include a walk through a forest of tall prickly pear cacti where large land iguanas are endemic. Next stop is Santa Cruz Island and the pretty town of Puerto Ayoro for a visit to the Charles Darwin Research Station and the rearing in captivity program for giant tortoises. Then head up to the highlands to see the scalesia (giant daisy trees) and giant tortoise in their wild habitat. (B,L,D)

Day 20, Fri. SAN CRISTOBAL ISLAND / QUITO.
Disembark at Puerto Baquerizo Moreno, a small attractive port and the capital of the Islands. Visit the Interpretation Center that focuses on the history and wildlife of the area. Later fly back to Quito where your evening is free. (B)

Day 21, Sat. DEPART QUITO.
Your homebound flight arrives the same day. (B)
