Day 1,
Mon. DEPART USA.
Day 2,
Tue. ARRIVE NAIROBI, KENYA.
Upon arrival, you are met and
transferred to your hotel. The remainder
of the day is free. An afternoon drive
takes you through Kenya’s modern,
mile-high capital to the area of Karen
Blixen’s farm at the foot of the Ngong
Hills. Visit the fascinating museum
dedicated to the author of "Out of
Africa," then feed the gentle
Rothschild’s giraffes at the Giraffe
Manor. (D)
Day 3,
Wed. NAIROBI / MT. KENYA.
Head northwest to the unique Serena
Mountain Lodge Tree Hotel. Set on the
slopes of rocky Mt. Kenya, the lodge has
a spectacular view over the rainforest,
an active waterhole and the surrounding
bushland. Your afternoon is at leisure
to watch game from the lodge, an
unforgettable experience. (B,L,D)
Day 4,
Thu. MT. KENYA SAFARI CLUB, MT. KENYA.
Travel to the historic and world
renowned Mount Kenya Safari Club
(co-founded by the late actor William
Holden) in the foothills of Mount Kenya,
a 17,058-foot dormant volcano. The rest
of the afternoon is free to relax and
enjoy this magnificent luxury safari
resort. (B,L,D)
Day 5,
Fri. MOUNT KENYA / SAMBURU.
Descend from the lush highlands to the
arid Laikipia Plains and the small oasis
of the famed Samburu Game Reserve.
Samburu lies on the fringe of the hot
and sparsely populated northern region
of Kenya. After lunch at your camp,
enjoy a game drive (B,L,D)
Day 6,
Sat. SAMBURU.
Morning and afternoon game drives are
scheduled for today. Samburu is home to
a number of unusual animals such as the
Grevy zebra, dik dik, beisa oryx, and
ostrich. Keep your eyes open for lion,
cheetah and antelope as well. The Uaso
Nyiro River provides bathing pools for
hippos and elephants, and you may even
spot a crocodile or a reticulated
giraffe. There is also a spectacular
variety of birds. (B,L,D)
Day 7,
Sun. SAMBURU / MASAI MARA.
Fly across the Great Rift Valley to the
rolling savannahs of the Masai Mara
National Reserve. At the northern
extremity of the Serengeti ecosystem and
blessed with a permanent water supply,
the Masai Mara has a thriving population
of plains game, augmented in the dry
season by the migration of two million
gnus and zebras from the vast, parched
Serengeti plains. After lunch, depart on
an afternoon game drive. (B,L,D)
Day 8,
Mon. MASAI MARA.
Spend the morning and afternoon on game
drives in search of the hunter’s "Big
Five." You are sure to see plains game
such as impala, and Grant’s and
Thompson’s gazelles. (B,L,D)
Day 9,
Tue. MASAI MARA / NAIROBI.
Rise early this morning for one last
game drive before breakfast. Late this
morning fly over the great Rift Valley
to Nairobi. The afternoon is at leisure
before dining at one of Nairobi’s finest
restaurants featuring local cuisine. (B,D)
Day 10,
Wed. DEPART NAIROBI.
A free day. Your rooms are available
until your transfer to the airport. (B)
Day 11,
Thu. ARRIVE USA.
You arrive home today.
Check with your
travel agent for the latest visa,
passport and health requirements for
East Africa. A visa is required for U.S.
citizens for Kenya and Tanzania. Non-U.S.
citizens should check with their
respective consulates.
It is prudent to consult your physician
regarding taking anti-malaria pills.
Proof is needed of yellow fever
vaccination for travel between Tanzania
and Kenya.
As some East African roads and game park
trails can be very rough, we do not
recommend this tour to people with back
problems.
It is customary to reward your safari
driver/ guide with a gratuity of about
$4-$5 per day per tour member for a good
performance.
