Day 1
DEPART USA / GUATEMALA CITY / ANTIGUA.
Upon arrival, you are met and privately
transferred to your hotel in Antigua.
The rest of the day is free.
Day 2
ANTIGUA.
Your half-day private tour will cover
the architectural and historical
highlights of this colonial city, with a
behind-the-scenes look at some of the
many historic churches, convents and
cathedrals. This tour is flexible; if
you have specific sights that you wish
to see, your guide will be happy to
accommodate you. The afternoon is at
leisure to explore Antigua on your own
and shop for Guatemala’s famous arts and
crafts. (CB)
Note: Market days are Sat., Mon. and
Thu.
Day 3
ANTIGUA / LAKE ATITLAN.
Start the day with a private transfer to
Lake Atitlan. You can request stops
along way, including the ruins of
Iximché (entrance not included) or the
Maya God of San Simon at San Andres
Iztapa. Friday and Tuesday are market
days in the colorful town of Solola,
situated just 15 minutes before arriving
at the lake, and is well worth a visit.
Here local Maya people congregate to buy
and sell produce for the week. Locals
still dress in their traditional bright
colors. This is a wonderful insight into
the Maya way of life, largely unchanged
for hundreds of years. (CB).
Day 4
SANTIAGO EXCURSION.
After breakfast, meet your boatman and
guide and take a scenic boat
ride across Lake Atitlan to the
village of Santiago. Along the way,
marvel at the surrounding volcanoes.
Your guide will show you around the
village and if you like, you can visit
the Maya God Maximon, an interesting
smoking and drinking effigy that locals
revere. Often a shaman is contracted and
you may see a ritual being performed. (B,L)
Day 5 LAKE
ATITLAN / CHICHICASTENANGO / FLORES.
Travel through the highlands to the
famous market at Chichicastenango. Full of
artisans, this market is great for
displaying the wide array of local
crafts available in Guatemala. Also,
look for the Maya rituals being
performed in the Catholic Church. Then
transfer to Guatemala City Airport in
time to catch the flight to Flores in
the northern rainforest region of the
country. (B)
Day 6
YAXHA NATIONAL PARK EXCURSION.
After a relaxing morning, visit
Yaxha National Park for a
guided tour of this lesser visited yet
truly fascinating site. Tour with your
guide and end at sunset on top of the
main temple with wonderful views over
the surrounding rainforest canopy. This
is a great time to see and hear howler
monkeys and a variety birdlife. (B)
Day 7
FLORES / TIKAL / GUATEMALA CITY.
An early morning start to explore the
amazing ruins at Tikal,
where huge Mayan temples rise above the
jungle canopy and monkeys and tropical
birds are abundant in the surrounding
rainforest. This afternoon, fly back to
Guatemala City where you will be met and
transferred to your hotel. Tonight,
perhaps try one of the restaurants and
bars of the lively Zone 10 area. (B,L)
Day 8
DEPART GUATEMALA CITY.
Transfer to the airport for your flight
home, arriving the same day. (B)
